CollegeInsider.com was established online in 1996. One year later the ‘coach-column’ feature was introduced. Over the years it has become a staple of the website along with unique content like All-Access Video and original offerings like the Mid-Major Top 25.

Now in its fourteenth year of existence, the Mid-Major Top 25 is the measuring stick for programs outside the power conferences.  In 2010 the Women’s Mid-Major Top 25 was created.  In the Nov, 26 2001 issue of Sports Illustrated, senior writer John O’Keefe wrote about collegeinsider.com’s weekly Mid-Major Top 25 poll. The half-page article focused on the voting panel, the Top 25 criteria and its’ importance come March.

CollegeInsider.com has also created fan-friendly and coach-friendly content like the Runway to the Fashionable 4 and Shots from the Heart.

The Runway to the Fashionable was created in 1998 to bring attention to coaches and their style.  With active participation from college coaches the Runway to the Fashionable 4 has become a big hit with fans and coaches, culminating a bracketed competition every March for head coaches and assistants.

Created in 2010, Shots from the Heart is a season-long free throw shooting event, which has included some of the biggest names in coaching. The competition pays tribute to the late Skip Prosser who died suddenly of a heart attack. The goal of Shots from the Heart is to continue to raise awareness for the fight against heart disease.

CollegeInsider.com has established 15 National Awards, which pay homage to some of the great in the history of the game.  They include the Jack Bennett Award, Lefty Driesell Award, Hugh Durham Award, Clarence Gaines Award, Joe B. Hall Award, Lou Henson Award, Ben Jobe Award, Kyle Macy Award, John McLendon Award, Don Meyer Award, Lute Olson Award, Jim Phelan Award, Skip Prosser Award, Glenn Robinson Award and Kay Yow Award, along with the Riley Wallace All-America Team.

In 2009 the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament was created.  What began as 16-team event, quickly expanded to 24 teams in 2011 and is now a 32-team postseason event, with invitations extended only to teams outside of the BCS power conferences.

In the July 27, 1998 issue of ESPN the Magazine, CollegeInsider.com was ranked No. 24 on the magazine’s list of 99 things to do before you die. ESPN’s the Rickster, NBA all-star Jason Kidd and super model Gabby Reece compiled the comprehensive list of who, what, where, when, why and how to watch in the world of sports. According to the panel: “Imagine trading e-mails with Bob Huggins and Mike Jarvis. More than 175 college hoops coaches sound off on the issues of the day. And a host of well-placed columnists serve up the latest dish from the court.”
